In a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.startribune.com\/stories\/804\/4027809.html\">column<\/a> about his daughter&#8217;s third birthday, he writes:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>I got her a car. A real one. No, she can&#8217;t drive it; she&#8217;s only 3. I&#8217;m just thinking ahead 13 years when she hints that a car would make a great birthday present.<\/p><p><em>I already got you one<\/em>, I&#8217;ll say. <em>You never used it.<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>Alas, it&#8217;s too late to use this trick on Ruth. Anyway, we already told her that she has dibs on the &#8217;95 Neon when she gets her license. Oh, well.
